Peter Rodulfo- A Mind’s Eye
Peter Rodulfo was born in USA (1958), and spent much of his childhood travelling India, Australia and England before settling in Norfolk, UK.He studied at the Norwich school of Art and Design (now Norwich University of the Arts) from 1975 – 1979. While based in Norwich, he still travelled extensively, and was artist in residence at Gioania, Brazil in 2004 and more recently Shenzhen, China.
He has been highly prolific throughout his career, producing paintings, etchings, assemblages and sculptures exhibited to critical acclaim in UK, USA,Venezuela, Brazil, Asia, and Europe.
Rodulfo re-located to the Norfolk coastal resort of Great Yarmouth in 2012 where he is a member of the ‘Yarmouth Six’. Along with his contemporary Mark Burrell he is a leading member of the movement known as the North Sea Magical Realists.
Rodulfo works predominately with oils on canvas. His paintings are loosely associated in their imagery and symbolism to Magical Realism; exploring themes such as love and loss, the erosion of memory, the elements and the animal kingdom, both real and imaginary.
His art is thematically and stylistically similar to the works of Paul Klee, Max Ernst and the British surrealist Leonora Carrington (1917- 2011). However his influences, along with the subject-matter, style and imagery of his paintings are varied, experimental and esoteric.
