Vinz feel free is a street/collage artist from Valencia, Spain whose nude avian “hybrids” have been engaged in a variety of scenes played out on
public walls across Europe.
Rather than using the traditional approaches to street art, Vinz
paints his animal heads on life-sized photographs of human bodies and
then pastes these on the walls. While many of his characters appeared to be cute and playful,
his work is also very complicated and at times very
serious, images that can pull us deep into a rich and complex
narrative.
Vinz’s ideas are grounded in our current social, political
and global
environment; Naked bodies of all shapes and sizes are meant to question
our beliefs in freedom, and the reptilian hybrids represent the
repressive and often violent police presence throughout the world. The
“Suited Reptilians” represent the businessmen and bankers who rule the
world we live in today. Many images come from photos that
he personally took of police violence during protests in his home
country of Spain.
“Birds and naked people are extracted from the book of Genesis in the
Bible. Mayas, Aztecs, Sumerians etc. talk about the figure of reptile
as the animals which take control over us, like police in our world. And
the frog appears in Apocalypse scenes and is responsible for Humanity
disasters. This is why I use them to build men in suit characters.”
His studio works are photographed and staged in collages on vintage
paper, offering images that not only criticize consumerism but also the
the police and the place of women in society.
“I believe that a positive message goes into our subconscious faster and permanent than a negative one. I try to represent daily scenes with deep messages, but
treated with humor, beauty, sensuality, tenderness.”
