Roland H. Heyder: Beauty in Odd Places

TransverseAlchemy Posted on July 28, 2013 by CharlieApril 4, 2024

Born in Singen, Germany in 1956, artist Roland Heyder has been working professionally since 1981, influenced by Salvador Dali and other “Fantastic Realists” such as Ernst Fuchs and Rudolf Hausner.

“It is hard for me to discuss my work because I don’t like the idea of influencing someone by explaining my own thoughts and opinions concerning my art. Each painting can either put you in another world, in the middle of a story or simply be the expression in symbols of my inner feelings. In terms of technique, I generally work on canvas prepared with at least two coats of gesso. I do a pencil sketch on paper, then on the canvas before painting with acrylic and then in oil.”

“I am particularly interested in portraying the dualities present in all
human experience. Rather, each experience is comprised of conflicting
opposites. Each individual additionally has her/his own unique
experiences. Therefore my paintings are ambiguous and not necessarily
resolvable, offering an opportunity of reflection and interpretation
that may vary, depending on the viewer himself… The figurative
paintings merely reflect a subjective understanding of the human
condition, and my desires to explore that further.”
